The Story Behind My Topic Choice

The main reason why I chose the topic I did was because I want to figure out from the opposing side why skateboarding seems to be such an issue when performed at public facilities or places. I have seen many cases where a skateboarder is harassed for skating on public grounds and sometimes even assaulted. Being a skateboarder myself, I have been in cases such as these as well. About five months ago, I was skating at a public beach access area and was physically assaulted for skating there along with my friend. Note that the sign posted states the word "public." I did not harm anyone or anything whatsoever. I was merely skating the smooth concrete provided to practice my flatland tricks, and it irritates me knowing that I was physically thrown off of public grounds for simply skating. I did nothing at all to harm or harass anyone. I did not provoke anybody when I was skating either.

  1. A lot of why people are told not to skate on public property is mostly because of profiling. Many people think skaters are going to be messing around and potentially get someone hurt. I think it is wrong that people judge groups like that without them and not even trying to. Where I stand on this issue is that the only place a skater should be restricted from skating is private property and areas that have little kids. Some skaters though do some bad stuff like graffiti and vandalism but that is a small number of them.

  2. I really like this topic, and absoultely one hundred and fifty percent agree with you. A lot of my friends skate, and still go to church, don't cuss nor do they break any laws. Why people give just one look to a certain group is rediculous. So, Sam, keep on keeping on and post more because I love reading your options, you really know what you are talking about. :DD
    Love you my husband!!
